Antie Sis' 1918 War Cake

Auntie Sis

Auntie Sis

"Auntie Sis" was my grandfather's aunt who raised him as a child.  She was a great cook.

I remember many backyard BBQ's at her home in Bakersfield when I was a kid. Watermelon in the back porch sink, blocks of ice with ice picks... Running through sprinklers... It was a fun time to be young!

Auntie's note on back:

I think I always added 1 or 2 eggs and beat into mixture. It's been so long since I made one of these I just about forget, but am almost sure I added eggs.
